Wellington Refugees as Survivors Trust

The Wellington Refugees as Survivors Trust (WNRAS) provides mental health services to refugees who have experienced torture or trauma. WNRAS is currently one of six service agencies forming a "one-stop-shop", within the Multicultural Services Centre (MSC). The MSC supports refugees and migrants with a wide variety of programmes and services.

 

This page will not only list any vacancies within WNRAS, but also within in the other agencies in the MSC. There are currently approximately 50 staff within the other agencies.

Part-time Community Development Worker (Economic Independence)

 

22.5 hours per week ($25 per hour)

Based in Wellington city

Five months contract till July 2012

 

ChangeMakers Refugee Forum has a vacancy for a Community Development Worker to work with communities and help build economic independence.

 

You will be working with former refugees and their communities, as well as refugee organisations and government agencies such as Work and Income. You will need to have experience working with different refugee-background communities and organising, facilitating, and running workshops. You will need good oral and written communication skills, including computer literacy.

1. Greater Wellington Intake Coordinator

Refugee Services is looking for an Intake Coordinator for the Greater Wellington area. The Intake Coordinator provides a smooth resettlement process for refugee clients to Greater Wellington through provision of basic resettlement needs, and to manage information flows to staff and key agencies.

2. Volunteer Supervisor (Lower Hutt)

Refugee Services operates a nationwide network of trained Volunteer Support Workers (VSWs) to help welcome and provide practical support, friendship and advocacy for refugee clients during their initial months of resettlement in New Zealand. Our volunteer supervisors:

 

  • Recruit new volunteers to assist with refugee clients;

  • Supervise teams of volunteers, providing support and guidance; and

  • Work with a team of social workers, cross cultural workers and case workers to plan for best client support.

3. Burmese Speaking Cross Cultural Worker

Refugee Services is looking for a fluent Burmese Speaker to work with newly arrived families in the Wellington area as a Cross Cultural Worker. It is preferred that the candidate has lived in New Zealand for two years or more. The work includes helping clients from Myanmar/Burma resettle in New Zealand. We are looking for someone who is able to relate to and support people from different cultural and religious backgrounds, and who can work both independently and as part of a team. Refugee background or membership of the Myanmar/Burmese community would be strongly preferred.

Interpreter Trainees Wanted

Are you a proficient speaker of English and another language? We need fluent speakers of a wide range of languages. We are short of speakers of Chin, Khmer, Amharic, Oromo, Somali and Tamil. You should be

  • available during normal working hours  

  • a NZ citizen or holder of Permanent Residence status

  • preferably living in NZ for 18 months or more

If selected, you will join our training course. Successful trainees will be employed on a casual basis at an excellent rate of pay.
